Mines and Coves – Atlantic coast

This tour takes in the rugged North Coast, with its gleaming aquamarine sea rolling onto white sandy beaches backed by rugged cliffs.

Starting at St. Agnes, a beautiful village tucked into a stunning spot on the coast. St. Agnes sits in a designated `Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty `, and a World Heritage site, home to the impressive remnants of Cornwall`s mining heritage. From here there are options to visit some of the stunning beaches in the area including Porth Towen, regularly awarded Blue Flag status.

We then take in Wheal Coates, where the coast path takes you to dramatic ruins perched on the cliff top heathland. This is iconic Cornwall at its best.

Next, we go down to Perranporth, three miles of golden sands, a mecca for surfers and the beach upon which, according to legend St. Piren was washed up on after being cast into the sea in Ireland. There is plenty to explore here, including a seawater swimming pool built into the back of the iconic Chapel Rock.  From here there is also the opportunity explore Holywell Bay and Crantock.

We follow the coast round to Watergate Bay, a long stretch of golden sand. Spectators, surfers and kite surfers flock here to experience the enormous waves. There are also plenty of Cafes and eateries from which to enjoy the amazing view.

We also stop off at Carnewas at Bedruthan, take in the dramatic coastal views overlooking the giant rock stacks. This is a remarkable part of the North Coast and well worth a stroll.

As we head to Padstow, we stop at Porthcothan Bay, an inlet backed by grassy dunes. This beach and it`s surrounding fields were used when filming Ross Poldark riding. There are many other coves and inlets along this coast to explore, and we can advise on other spots you may wish to include.

The day finishes in Padstow, a working harbour and fishing port, that has of course been made famous by Rick Stien. Here you can visit the Lobster Hatchery and end the day with a stroll on the harbour wall and dinner in one of the many restaurants, cafes and bars dotted around the town from Paul Ainsworth`s No.6 to traditional fish and chips.
